The philosophy of the Andreas Quartier
Values that endure for generations
The Andreas Quartier has succeeded in preserving values that have stood the test of time and giving them a future. In addition to the aesthetic power of architecture, these include inspiration from art in all its forms and the human need for security on the one hand and for encounters on the other. All three pillars of this philosophy find space and time in the Andreas Quartier.
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the passing on of fire – according to this motto, the Andreas Quartier was not only designed as a listed building with modern additions. Rather, the aim was to do justice to the place and its history, shaped by people over centuries, and to give it new meaning. The elaborate preservation of architectural witnesses to the past, the replacement of purely functional administrative buildings with timeless residential and commercial buildings in a multifaceted urban quarter, has been more than successful. But that's not all.
Art has found and continues to find its way into the Andreas Quartier in the form of contemporary paintings, sculptures and installations, in the form of events and daily in the form of music. A third dimension of the Andreas Quartier is dedicated to the art of living. It includes not only luxuriously appointed residences in a privileged location, exclusive services and extraordinary culinary discoveries, but also the idea of sound and silence, the option of being able to decide at any time whether to retreat to your private space or to celebrate life with others. The Andreas Quartier is always more than the sum of its parts.
A work of art for life
Long live contrast!
The internationally renowned artist HA Schult, known for his object and action art, has been involved in the conception of the Andreas Quartier from the very beginning. He describes the field of tension between sound and silence in which the Andreas Quartier expresses itself as a symbol of our time and as a place of longing. Through the ambivalence of liveliness and community on the one hand, and the need for retreat and inner contemplation on the other.
‘The Andreas Quartier is an ode to the duality of being. It unites the ecstatic joy of the moment with the deep calm of contemplation. It is a place that teaches us that true happiness does not lie in fleeing from the world, but in consciously experiencing its contradictions.’
This synthesis of supposedly irreconcilable contradictions characterises life in the Andreas Quartier and makes it an incomparable experience.
The sound of silence
A refuge in the midst of the hustle and bustle
The quiet side of Andreas Quartier is most evident in the green courtyard garden. Just a few steps from the legendary and equally turbulent Ratinger Straße, you feel as if you are in a different world. In the middle of a carefully designed and well-kept park, the splashing of the fountain, the sound of church bells in the distance, the singing of birds and the quacking of the ducks that occasionally come to rest, compose a different, very special symphony every day. As a guest or resident of the hotel, you can also listen to it from the ‘boxes’, i.e. the balconies and roof terraces, as well as in the garden itself, where benches invite you to take a break for contemplation. It is an impressive experience that makes you forget that you are in the middle of Düsseldorf. This unique contrast programme quickly makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life and allows you to retreat to a place of peace and quiet at any time.
